We're now on the hunt for exceptional Security Officers to join us. But not just anyone! We're searching for the top 1%. The elite few.
Liz joined the team at Venture in January 2020 and is a valued member of our mobile patrol team. For Liz, working nights is something she really enjoys, and which fits with her busy family life. Here’s what she had to say.
Before joining Venture, I was working in nursing in a mental hospital and also had a second job working in security within a retail setting. I’d also done student housing and corporate security
I was unhappy with the security company I was working for, so when I came across Venture on Indeed and saw they were recruiting for a mobile patrol officer, I thought I’d give it a go and switch from static guarding to mobile.
I usually arrive early for my shift, around 6pm, and begin by conducting some maintenance checks on the van. I’ll then visit a range of customer properties throughout the night. For me, this includes business premises, council and housing association properties and also some residential homes. I finish around 7am, after I’ve opened up and done my final unlocks for customers.
I’m responsible for protecting other people’s properties - looking out for maintenance issues as well as unwanted visitors! You never know what you might encounter and I’ve dealt with everything from break-ins to antisocial behaviour, including individuals under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
One incident I’m particularly proud of was a recent break-in at a local sports centre. I liaised with the police and the customer and remained on site for several hours ensuring the security of the site was maintained.
I know it’s not for everyone, but I’ve always really enjoyed working nights and it fits in with my family life. I also find it very satisfying looking after people’s properties. Customers are putting their trust in you and I take great pride in doing my job to the best of my ability.
The other security company I worked for only cared about lining their own pockets. As long as you went in and did your job, that’s all that mattered to them. Venture is very different.
Paul and Sara, the owners, really care about their staff and your wellbeing. Same with my supervisor. They always ask how you are and how the family is and care about you. It’s something you can see is ingrained throughout the company.
You can get hold of somebody anytime, day and night, and it’s never too much bother. It really does feel like one big family and I have such supportive co-workers.
I say go for it! There are several people I worked with at my last company who have asked me about Venture and I always tell them how much happier I am.
I have custody of my 5-year-old granddaughter, who is highly autistic and it can be very challenging. To try and give something back, I do charity walks to raise money for the National Autistic Society. This year I did one with my 8-year-old and my granddaughter, where we did so many steps in so many days.
