Andover BID Rangers deal with more than 2000 shoplifting incidents

Following the success of Venture’s Town and City Centre security team in various locations across the region, in August 2020 the company was awarded a contract by Andover Business Improvement District (BID).

The Andover Bid Rangers were introduced to work alongside the BID team in helping to ensure that Andover town centre is a safe and pleasant place to be, while providing local businesses with security support for their premises.

The Rangers have become a familiar site and their uniformed presence is not only reassuring to members of the public but a great community asset for businesses and other agencies. Importantly, they know the town inside out and understand the needs of local people and businesses.

A key part of the Ranger’s remit has been to reduce antisocial behaviour but their support extends far beyond that. The role sees the Rangers dealing with a wide range of issues and no two days are every the same. They also act as a central point, liaising between the many partner agencies and stakeholders. As such, having outstanding communication skills is vital, as well as a calm and professional manner and the ability to think on their feet, to deal with any situation they may encounter.

Since their introduction they have had a significant and positive impact for the BID area.

In the last year alone, the Rangers have dealt with:

• 2,611 theft or shoplifting incidents
• 23 assaults
• 556 cases of antisocial behaviour
• 57 medical emergencies

Paul Howe, MD, Venture Security, commented: “We continue to be incredibly proud of our Town and City Centre teams and the role they are playing in supporting local councils, BIDs, the police and other partner agencies.

“It is a very challenging role and one which sees our officers dealing with a variety of different situations on a daily basis. The depth and complexity of the role is something that is not always understood, so it’s great to be able to highlight these figures and the impact they are having.”
